Welcome to The Daffodil Inn

Hugh & Gill Matthews took ownership of The Daffodil Inn in June 2014, following retirement from their previous professions within Thames Valley - Hugh a retired police officer and Gill a nurse. Both are delighted to have returned to Gill’s Welsh roots where, having been raised in Pembrokeshire, her parents and extended family remain.

The Daffodil Inn is a food-led country pub in the pretty village of Penrhiwllan, conveniently located between Newquay beach and Llandysul canoeing centre, near many scenic drives, cycling routes and country walks.  

Food at The Daffodil is freshly prepared and cooked using the best quality local produce wherever possible.  The menu, which is available to guests eating in the restaurant, in the bar areas or the outside decking over-looking the unspoilt valley incorporates dishes appropriate for full three-course dining and for those wishing for more traditional bar-meal-style dining.  Watch our chefs at work preparing your food in open view in our gallery kitchen, or just enjoy a drink in the bar, snug, decking or lounge areas, where log burners will be lit during cold spells. 

Well-behaved dogs on leads are very welcome in the bar or on the decking dining area.

Mark Edwards (Head Chef)   Meet Mark, our Head Chef here at The Daffodil. Originally from Aberystwyth began cooking at age 16 in local restaurants. He then decided to move to Cardiff to further pursue his career. His most recent job was Head Chef of an AA Rosette Pub in the Vale of Glamorgan. We are excited to have Mark as part of the Daffodil family and with the direction that Mark is continuing to take the menus on offer at The Daffodil.

Carmella (Front of House Manager)   Meet Carmella our Front of House Manager. Having moved West from the Vale of Glamorgan, Carmella has been in hospitality for nearly 15 years, having run gastro-pubs for the last 5; she knows her stuff, especially when it comes to our menus! With a friendly & approachable manner, she's on a mission to ensure each of your visits is even better than the last.  When she's not working, Carmella loves eating out and attending music festivals.

Meet Carmella our Front of House Manager. Having moved West from the Vale of Glamorgan, Carmella has been in hospitality for nearly 15 years, having run gastro-pubs for the last 5; she knows her stuff, especially when it comes to our menus! With a friendly & approachable manner, she's on a mission to ensure each of your visits is even better than the last.

When she's not working, Carmella loves eating out and attending music festivals.

Alex (Manager)   The jack of all trades. Lived in Cardiff and left to travel the world to explore other cultural values and norms. Alex then decided to come back to Wales to work along side both his parents at The Daffodil. Alex is passionate about ensuring guest experiences are the best that they can be and makes the best Espresso Martinis. In his off time, Alex enjoys any outdoor activities and spontaneous adventures.

Steve   Steve joined The Daffodil in 2018 and is passionate about food. He enjoys working and learning alongside our   Head Chef   when developing new dishes and menus. When not at work, Steve enjoys listening to music and going to the gym.

Johnny   Johnny is another amazing staff member at the Daffodil. Skilled at working quickly, organized & maintains high standards is how we describe Johnny! On his days off he enjoys watching and playing football.
